The National Firearms Act (NFA) is a federal law regulating the manufacture, transfer, and possession of certain firearms and other weapons. It is administered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which is responsible for issuing licenses and collecting taxes on NFA items.
All NFA purchases must be made with a valid ATF license and require payment of a special tax.
